About this deal

After reading the charges, the judges began to call witnesses to the stand. The first witnesses gave contextual evidence—the historical, social, political, economic, and cultural situation of Chad before and during the Habré regime. These witnesses also outlined the psychological profile of the defendant and described his political career from his first struggles to his fall in December 1990. The EAC judges also called expert witnesses to the stand. These mainly comprised forensic pathologists, ballistics experts, statisticians, and legal experts. The EAC judges then began to hear from direct and indirect victims. These witnesses gave testimony about the specific crimes they experienced or witnessed. The bottom line is… Mia led Luke to that V in the wall. Mia didn’t even need anything of Jodi’s to sniff.

The whereabouts of all family members was examined to help develop a timeline of what happened. This is routine during all murder investigations and nobody else was considered a suspect. SCOTT FORBES: The initial reaction from some in the media was not to question the facts of what had been claimed, but to attempt to discredit the two investigating former detectives asked to investigate the murder of Jodi Jones. Shoot the messenger rather than listening because the message highlighted the failings of police and agents of the media. In the reporter’s submissions she mentions no other suspects, except Mark Kane, and claims “most” suspects mentioned in the TV documentary were questioned extensively. What an embarrassment to come out with such nonsense. I have seen the transcripts of the interviews with those people – the only thing they were questioned extensively about was Luke Mitchell. However, it does give an example of how falsehoods were fed to the public throughout the entire investigation. Her murder was described by the FBI as a “Lust Murder,” a murder where the killer stabs, cuts or mutilates the sexual parts of the body for sexual pleasure. This is known as Evisceration Piquerism. The removal or mutilation of the breast in the female victim is “de feminization.” Lust killers aren’t satisfied with just the murder, they have to mutilate or use the corpse in a posing fashion. This all fit with the murder of Jodi. To cut the breast away or mutilate it is also an indication of the “cutting away” of the relationship with the mother, a ‘mummy’s boy’ wanting to free himself. The author confronts some ugly truths and disturbing realities which were commonplace, if well concealed, in the local area. But were they well concealed from the investigating authorities, or did they wilfully turn a blind eye? As you read, ask yourself, is it possible that the police really knew nothing of these goings on, right in the heart of one of the most brutal murder scenes in Scottish history? Much of what you post here is the same sensationalist media garbage that plays such a huge part in convicting innocent people.

A Long Walk to Justice by Scott C Forbes | Goodreads

Luke’s DNA was actually found on her bra and her DNA was found on Luke’s trousers, but in an agreement between the Crown and defence team, led by Donald Findlay QC, it was decided the issue of DNA wasn’t relevant as the pair were in an intimate relationship. The Crown weren’t going to say DNA made him the killer as it was expected his DNA would be on Jodi. DNA in this case wouldn’t prove innocence or guilt. But there was something different on the night of the 30th of June 2003. Different enough for her sister Janine, her boyfriend Stephen Kelly, and the head of the family, Alice Walker, to leave Mayfield and walk approximately two miles to meet Luke Mitchell to search for Jodi. Shane later admitted on the stand he had discussed his earlier statement with his mother before telling police Mitchell had been at home. He admitted that the statement was not accurate. As the alibi was not held up in court, Corrine was arrested for perjury, however prosecutors made a decision not to proceed with the charges. The whereabouts of all family members was examined to help develop a timeline of what happened. This is routine during all murder investigations and nobody else was considered a suspect.I did hear several times that the series was one sided and that they didn’t investigate Luke Mitchell. I argued it wasn’t biased in favour of Luke Mitchell because the research team weren’t working for Luke Mitchell, or attempting to clear his name. They were instructed to simply delve into the case from scratch and, after examining the evidence, declare their findings. There was, and is, NO evidence against Luke Mitchell, and what evidence there was pointed towards others. The investigation, like any investigation, academic or criminal, should concentrate on the evidence, first and foremost.

In 2021, Channel 5 aired Murder in a Small Town, a two-part series on the murder of Jodi Jones. Professor Alan Jamieson and his staff from the Forensic Institute in Glasgow, along with two former police detectives, John Sallens and Michael Neill, with over fifty years of detective experience including crime scene management, were asked to investigate the murder of Jodi Jones and to examine if the original investigation could have been done differently. Witnesses Rosemary Walsh and Lorraine Fleming claimed to have seen a man who looked very similar to Luke Mitchell on Newbattle Road at approximately 5:45 p.m.DI Martin said the sightings were “credible” and an important breakthrough and asked the public to “search their conscience” and come forward with the name of the man the police were looking for. When criminologist, Dr Sandra Lean, started to ask questions about the case as early as 2004, she was spat on in the street, received threats of violence, had bullying men turn up at her home making threats on her life, and all was accepted and permitted by Dalkeith Police. A couple of days after Jodi was killed, Mark “Bill” Bryson was in the home of Judith Jones and Alan Ovens speaking about the murder and Luke Mitchell.
