About this deal

If you want the absolute best adhesion, especially on items that will be touched frequently like knobs, it’s important to sand and prime before using Rub n Buff.

Never thought I’d be sitting at my office desk “trying on” Rub n Buff colors, but doing this little experiment was so helpful for me so I can reference all of the colors in the future, and I hope it helped you too. I want to make a mirror that is kind of just a grey/tan plastic wood grain finish look much more silvery (think tiara) and was wondering what would be the best product to use?I have been told by the manufacturer that you can create your own range of colors by mixing the colors together to get the shade you like. You can see that the color on the tube is supposed to indicate product color but it’s not accurate enough to help you decide. A bit of googling did not turn up any side-by-side comparisons of the product, and I don’t trust those digital color sample sheets (rightly so as it turns out). So, I have a frameless mirror on the wall in my living room and I bought some molding to frame it out. The attached photos also include more information on the product and pictures of some of the many projects and materials it can be used on.

I want it to be gold but spray paint is not going to give me the finish I’m looking for… and so I turned to Rub ‘N Buff.

Apply a pea-sized small amount to a soft cloth or your finger (I wear latex gloves), and rub the wax onto any metal, wood, plastic, ceramic, or glass surface. I used an old broken spatula to try it on plastic, a yardstick for raw wood, and some spray painted molding for a painted surface. This step is only required if you want an aged/patina effect, but paint gives the Rub n Buff better adhesion and is a good idea for a slick surface. European Gold – The least saturated, cooler-toned of all of the Rub ‘n Buff golds, this shade is more of a champagne hue and is best if you want just a slightly gold tinted color. On items that aren’t usually handled like light fixture or picture frames, it’s a good idea to sand for easier application, but primer isn’t necessary. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. It looks like they make two more, Autumn Gold which appears to be a rose gold, and European Gold which seems to be a lighter, silvery variation. Our product range has grown over the years too and includes many famous international brands from the world of art and design materials as well as lower cost items. It must be stiff and not fluffy (a blending brush works well) and you’ll want super fine/soft bristles for best results. I’d use a couple layers of some type of top coat over it and am not sure it would hold up to the heavy use of a seat… but the legs should be fine. I carry all of the 9 currently available colors as well as the Ruby and Patina that have been discontinued. This is a designer’s secret for an easy DIY to update the look of almost any solid surface without breaking the bank.
